Legal Resources
The following resources are programs that can help families seeking legal guidance related to citizenship, family, and juvenile matters.
Legal rights organization operates an information hotline with trained volunteers who provide legal information, support and referrals for questions relating to sexual orientation, gender identity, and HIV status within the New England area.
Court Service Center provides court information, and helps members of the public better understand court procedures, complete court forms, and notarizes legal documents free of charge. Public may use Service Center equipment, including computers, printers, internet access, coin-operated photocopiers, telephones, fax machine, and a typewriter.

Do-It-Yourself Divorce Guide and Do-It-Yourself Guide Supplement (must be used together) are written to help people without legal training use Connecticut State Courts to obtain a divorce without the use of an attorney. Books are available free to anyone and can be obtained from any Judicial District (JD) court clerk. Sets of books are also available at public libraries, legal aid offices, and domestic violence shelters.
Connecticut Judicial Branch Law Library System maintains collections of state and federal statutes, caselaw, legal journals, treatises, and other publications.
Housing Resources
The following resources are programs hat can assist with locating affordable housing.
Local housing authority administers rental programs for income eligible older adults ages 62+ and adults with disabilities ages 18+.

Grove Manor has handicap access. (Two disability access apartment units)
Affordable rental housing for older adults ages 62+ and adults ages 18+ with disabilities. Housing Choice Vouchers are welcome.

Community Programs for Kinship Caregivers
The following resources below are all programs that specialize in working with kinship caregivers who are caring for a child under the age of 18.
Support and education groups for family members and friends raising children due to unforseen circumstances meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 6-7pm at United Services, 303 Putnam Road, Wauregan. Childcare is provided without charge and there is also a children's activity group. Refreshments are provided.
Support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at the Groton Public Library, Room 1, 52 Newtown Road in Groton. Children are welcome and there will be arts and crafts, Lego table, movies, popcorn, story time and more. Also guest speakers, resources, picnics and parties.
Kinship Grants Respite Grants for Relative and Non-Relative Caregivers
One Union Plaza, New London, CTTwo funds for income eligible relatives or non-family who were granted guardianship of a child by a Regional Children's Probate Court OR a Superior Court:
1) KINSHIP GRANT provides up to $550 per child per year (with an annual family cap of $2200) for children in the care of relatives, or in some cases, a non-family member, who was appointed legal guardian by a Regional Children's Probate Court OR a Superior Court. Funds must be used for the child's needs, such as the child's health needs, basic needs, enrichment and educational activities, and for expenses that help children participate fully in school life, such as school clubs and sports fees, events that mark milestones for the child such as class photos, graduation fees, and other events important to the child.
2) RESPITE GRANT provides up to $2200 per family per year to directly benefit guardians. Funds can be used for rent, mortgage interest, property taxes, clothing and personal care items, education, child care, transportation, and such other expenses as the Court determines appropriate.
Grandparents and Other Kinship Caregivers Assistance
125 Eugene O'Neill Drive, Suite 120, New London, CTLegal information and assistance for grandparents and other kinship caregivers of minor children. Services include assistance with obtaining public benefits; education and special education services; custody and visitation issues; DCF related matters; probate, guardianship and custody matters; and senior housing issues.
